Welcome to Family Meal, our blog series spotlighting our incredible Roomies. This month, we’re excited to feature Issa Skyport, a People Success Generalist who plays a key role in welcoming and supporting new employees.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Issa: Hi, I'm Issa! I’m a People Success Generalist at SevenRooms, and I started working here in July 2023.

What do you love most about working at SevenRooms?

Issa: I love being one of the first people new Roomies meet when they join the company. Starting a new job can be stressful and overwhelming, and I hope to be one of the friendly faces that helps ease that transition.

What's the most impactful lesson you've learned in your career?

Issa: Careers aren’t ladders—thinking of them that way is outdated and, for most of us, unrealistic. It's more accurate to say careers are more like a trellis. In my experience, my career path has gone up, to the side, and sometimes even down. In my opinion, focusing on meaningful growth and quality of life leads to a more fulfilling career than "getting ahead."

What’s your favorite activity outside of work?

Issa: Lately, snowboarding. I've been skiing since I was three or four and snowboarding since I was seven. I don't remember a time when I wasn't on the mountain in the winter! My dad grew up skiing and taught me as soon as I could stand.

Describe for us your favorite dining experience.

Issa: I love fine dining, but I think hands down my favorite dining experience ever was getting these fresh bao buns from a street cart in Cambodia and eating them on a bus as we headed to Siem Reap.

What's the best book that you've read recently?

Issa: Whole Brain Living by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor

What's one thing you can't live without?

Issa: Moisturizer—face moisturizer in particular. Hydration, in general, is like my religion.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

Issa: One fun fact about me is I used to own and run a food cart in my 20s! It had a Singaporean-Malaysian-inspired menu, and it was both the hardest and most rewarding job I’ve ever had
