Diners of the Future Report

Consumers expect technology to enhance the way they live their lives, and dining out is no different. But how can restaurants implement new technology in a way that complements, rather than overwhelms, the diner?

SevenRooms’ recently released study, Diners of the Future, aimed to answer that critical question. The study revealed that today’s guests expect personalization in their dining out experience, and understand that technology is key to the execution, but want it applied with an almost invisible touch.

Key findings include:

Over half (51%) of Americans want their waiter or waitress to remember them from a previous visit.
One in five (20%) Americans would book a reservation at a restaurant that could create a personalized menu for them based on their preferences.
26 percent of Americans would use social media to research a restaurant.
11 percent of Americans would book or confirm a reservation with a thumbprint on their smartphone.
One in four (25%) Americans want the ability to request the same waiter or waitress who already knows their food, drink and table preferences.

This report offers key insights into how guests expect technology to be incorporated into their dining experience, including the primary differences in how the newest sector of diners, millennials, think about technology in restaurants. Download the study to learn more.

Research Methodology

SevenRooms commissioned YouGov PLC – a third party, professional research and consulting organization – to poll the views of 1,108 individuals who agreed to take part. Fieldwork was undertaken online between April 3-4, 2018. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all US adults (aged 18+).
