Family Meal: Employee Spotlight with David Hughes

Welcome to Family Meal, our blog series where we shine a spotlight on one of our amazing Roomies. This month, we sat down with David Hughes, Team Lead, Customer Support based in Australia.

Tell us a little about yourself and your role.

David: Hello, my name is David. I am a Team Lead for the technical Customer Support team at SevenRooms. I began my SevenRooms journey in October of 2022, which feels like years ago and also just yesterday.

What do you love most about working at SevenRooms?

David: I love that I get to do something completely different every single day. No two days are usually the same, so I'm always on my feet, I've always got something different to look forward to.

What are you most proud of about your role at SevenRooms?

David: So many things, honestly! But I think what I’m most proud of is helping the hospitality industry in a constructive and meaningful way. I’m able to maintain a certain proximity to restaurants and other venues without actually running them. So I get to help an industry I care deeply about and help operators achieve their dreams.

What's something that sets SevenRooms apart?

David: The people around me! Everyone is so curious and creative and driven, it's a great feeling to be surrounded by interesting people each day - both fellow 7Roomies and clients alike.

What is a non-work activity or hobby that you do? How did you get into it?

David: Traveling. I started exploring and going on trips with friends and family from a young age. I’ve kept it up ever since, much to my back pocket’s chagrin!

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

David: A really good carbonara.

What's the best book or podcast that you've read/listened to recently?

David: Las Culturistas. It’s a pop-culture and comedy podcast co-hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. If you like laughing and having a great time, then it’s perfect for you!

Describe for us your favorite dining experience.

David: My favorite dining or restaurant experience is such a tricky question! I've got years of cafes and restaurants all whooshing past my head. Probably spending New Year's Eve in Paris with my partner at the time and just ducking into a little, very classic bistro with all of the French-isms. That would be it.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
